Greetings Mayer High School!
I am thrilled to write this letter to you as your newly appointed high school principal. It is truly an honor and a dream of mine to serve in this role at a school with such strong traditions, values, sense of community, dedicated staff and great students! I want to share a bit about myself; I was born and raised in Southern California. I received my bachelor’s & master’s degree from California Baptist University and my education certificates are from University of California, Riverside. And I completed my principal certificate at Pepperdine University while doing my doctorate degree. I taught for 3 years at a middle school and followed that with 5 years of high school guidance counseling. Then I went into school administration for 12 years at a Los Angeles county school district.
After moving from California to Prescott Valley, AZ, I took a position at Prescott High School as a school counselor again and was there for 3 years. I truly enjoyed my time there and loved working with all of the staff and students. While I was there I was also their JV Wrestling Coach and worked with their SALT students doing the MatForce drug prevention programs. But I still longed to go back into administration and that brought me to your school district. I plan to work as a team with staff, students and parents. I would like for us to create an educational environment with Positivity, Pride, and Future Goal planning. I want every student to feel a sense of belonging, safety, and support at Mayer High School from the first moment they walk into our building. I plan to strengthen our school-wide systems and processes. Having clear and open communication, collaboration, and shared decision-making will be at the heart of our work. I truly value the voices of our families, staff and students, so please reach out if you would like to collaborate on this with us.
Our students are the heart and soul of our school, their dreams, stories and ideas will be valued, supported, and given a platform to shine. I am committed to finding ways for our young leaders to become active participants in their learning and to find opportunities for student leadership within our school and beyond. I will be a collaborative leader that values the opinions of all stakeholders in our students' education.
Go Wildcats! Ms. Ontiveros “Ms. O”
